Here are some of the pointers I give to my private pilates clients, including at-home exercises you can do to help extend your sessions into your everyday life.
Breathe. Start your morning with some deep breathing in bed, take a deep breath break at your work desk, or have a side “deep breath” while you’re cooking dinner. Close your eyes when you do so, and be mindful of the cells in your body and the nourishing oxygen you’re taking in.
Concentration. Pilates requires focused concentration, and so does everyday life. This can mean simply turning off your phone or logging off a social media site. This principle is true for your relationships, too. Don’t be afraid to tell a friend or co-worker, “I’m busy right this moment, but I can give you my full attention in a moment.”
Control. You can’t control others, but you can control how you react to different situations throughout your day. Start with your personal life at home. When it’s organized and under control, you’ll have more freedom to do you what you want in your free time.
